This year is coming to an end, friends, and we will all agree that it has been an intense year full of moments to remember. A year that has gone from less to more but that has had decisive moments. Therefore, from Univergy Solar we want to take stock of what 2021 has been for us, review the projects that we have been able to move forward with enthusiasm and, ultimately, share with you our experiences this year. Let’s start!
The year 2020 ended with good results, so there were high hopes and expectations for this year. In the first month of the new year, we announced that, in line with our quality, environment, health and safety policies, we had obtained triple ISO certification: Quality Management System ISO 9001, Environmental Management ISO 14001 and Occupational Health and Safety ISO 45001. These have recently been renewed.
Shortly afterwards, an agreement was reached with Fox Energía to bring solar photovoltaic self-consumption to all local and regional industry in the province of Alicante. An agreement that, to date, has strengthened our presence in Alicante and has facilitated the installation of more than 75 solar self-consumption installations in the area.
During the month of March, Univergy Solar launches its own Renewable Hydrogen division, after being awarded two hydrogen projects in Spain and six hydrogen plants. Univergy Solar’s Green Hydrogen team is currently coordinating the “Jules Verne” project, which aims to generate and dispense renewable hydrogen in logistics and mobility operations in the port of Vigo.
In April, two more new projects were to come, with the construction of two new solar plants (Rebentó and Salinetes II), which reinforced the company’s position as a developer of large plants in Spain. Subsequently, construction of the 4.5 MW Salinetes I solar photovoltaic plant in the Alicante municipality of Novelda began.
Later, Univergy Solar and Blueleaf Energy launched the Hinode Energy joint venture, based in Japan, in June. The company aims to develop large solar plants in the Japanese country and has since been led by our former colleague and Asia Development Director, José Antonio Millán, who last week received the CEO of the Year award for his work at Hinode Energy.
That same month, with the aim of accrediting the quality of the energy generated by our renewable energy facilities, we added the EKOenegry Ecolabel certification, an internationally recognized seal that certifies that the energy from our facilities comes from a sustainable source.
In the last quarter of the year, the company Univergy Partners, based in Bilbao, was created to accelerate the implementation of renewable energy projects in the Basque Country. At the head of this company is Juan Garrido as Managing Director, who brings more than 20 years of experience leading high-performance teams in investment banking.
Finally, and as icing on the cake, all the large photovoltaic plant projects that Univergy Solar had been awarded in Taiwan, totaling more than 3.5 MW, have been completed.
In conclusion, the year 2021 has been full of good news thanks to the work of our great team. As Thomas J. Watson, chairman of IBM during the 1920s to 1950s once said, “to be successful one must have one’s heart in one’s business and one’s business in one’s heart.” And with that, we move on! We wish you a very happy beginning of the year and may 2022 bring you many successes and new projects.
